THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar has suffered another setback as the government has extended his suspension by 120 days in connection with the controversial "rescue operation" case. He had already completed three months under suspension.
The controversial incident took place during the previous government's tenure. Ajith Kumar was suspended for allegedly sabotaging the probe into the assault on KSU and Youth Congress workers by the security personnel of the then Chief Minister. The workers were protesting during the LDF government's Nava Kerala Yatra.
The former investigation team had told the SIT that the initial investigators were summoned to the ADGP's office and asked to make changes to the case diary. They alleged that Grade SIs Gireesh and Sreekanth tampered with official records and threatened officers with the full knowledge of the ADGP. Following these revelations, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala recommended Ajith Kumar's suspension, which was approved by the Chief Minister. The government took the crucial action against him just as he was set to be promoted to the rank of DGP.
