KANNUR: A Facebook post by E.P. Shyamjith, nephew of CPM central committee member E.P. Jayarajan, alleged that Jayarajan’s wife, P.K. Indira, had received money from mineral-sands businessman Sasidharan Kartha. The post included an image of a notebook page claimed to be in Jayarajan’s handwriting. Shyamjith later said he had not made the post and explained that his account had been hacked. Jayarajan rejected the allegations and said he would take legal action.
The post alleged that the money received from Kartha had been spent on Vaidekam resort. It also claimed that details would be revealed the following day about certain individuals who had invested crores of rupees in the resort without accounting for the money. The post was subsequently deleted.
Jayarajan denies financial links
Jayarajan said he had no financial connection with Vaidekam resort and held no shares in it. He said he had initially offered advice and encouragement to the venture. According to him, the money his wife received upon retirement was invested as her share in the resort. He said details of the directors and investments were publicly available and denied that anyone had made a substantial investment in the establishment. He also said he had never been in contact with Sasidharan Kartha and that his wife did not know Kartha’s name.
Jayarajan alleged that the accusations were an act of retaliation following the dismissal of Shyamjith’s wife, Deepa, who had been appointed as the resort’s account manager on his recommendation. He said she was removed following several irregularities. He announced that he would file criminal and defamation cases against those who published the news and those who made the allegations. He also said he would lodge a complaint with the Press Council against a private television channel. Shyamjith subsequently said he had not deliberately published the post and suspected that someone had hacked and misused his account. He also said he would take legal action against the media.
