THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Liquor worth more than 1.5 lakh rupees was stolen from Bevco outlets in Thiruvananthapuram last month alone. The culprits carried out the theft by concealing the bottles in their undergarments and walking out free, evading security. This came to light following an examination of CCTV footage and stock records. The individuals who stole the expensive liquor from the premium counters included young men as well as migrant workers.
Officials grew suspicious during a stock count and, upon checking CCTV footage, discovered the theft at the premium counter. Consequently, instructions were issued to conduct inspections across the state. It was found that the group responsible for the theft at the shop on Power House Road in Thiruvananthapuram also targeted four other outlets. Among the items stolen were bottles valued at over Rs 4,000.
The culprits have not yet been identified despite an investigation. Employees' unions demanded that security be tightened to end the misuse occurring at premium counters.
