NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court made an incisive remark about Cockroach Janata Party leaders, doubting whether they really belonged to Generation Z. The court made the remark while considering the plea from CJP leaders challenging the extension of their judicial custody.

It was advocate Abhik Chimni, appearing for the CJP leaders, who informed the court that Das was 27 years old and Ranka was 32. Immediately, the court retorted, “Then they are not Gen Z!”

Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma and advocate Ashish Dixit appeared for the Delhi Police.

Meanwhile, the court also raised questions regarding the identity of the petitioners.

“ Who are you? What is your organisation all about? Since there is an apprehension of peace and tranquillity, this question carries relevance. It should be noted that you are drawing the court into a debate which will not go in your favour in the long run,” remarked the court as reported by national media.

Das and Ranka were sent to judicial custody for trespassing at Jantar Mantar, a denotified protest site, and hurling the Indian tricolour on October 13. The court also observed that the CJP leaders showed no sense of propriety by arrogantly organising yet another protest on a denotified spot.

After the remarks from the court, the CJP leaders withdrew their plea.
