NEW DELHI: More details of the statement made by Siya Goyal, accused in the murder of young businessman Ketan Agarwal, surfaced on Friday. Siya purportedly told the police that she was not interested in marriage and had even told Ketan about this, but he was reluctant to back out. According to police, Ketan responded to her explaining about his wealthy family status and influence, which, according to him, made it difficult to back out of the marriage.
Siya said that Ketan was not ready to call off the engagement despite her requests. Siya wanted to live with her lover, Chetan, but knew that her family would not approve of that relationship. That thought led to Siya planning Ketan’s murder.
Meanwhile, Chetan, Siya's boyfriend and another accused in the case, had told the police the other day that Siya’s family knew about their relationship but was against it. Chetan had told the police that Siya was afraid that eloping with him would affect the family's honour, and therefore, the only option they had was to eliminate Ketan.
However, the surprise came as Siya’s family revealed to the police that she never spoke to them about her discontent in the marriage, nor with Ketan. The family said that Siya could have discussed anything with them, but she chose not to. Siya’s father, Praveen Goyal, who learned about the incident, is in the hospital after suffering a heart attack. Praveen also demands that his daughter be given severe punishment if found guilty.
On June 19, on Siya’s birthday, Ketan was summoned to Lohagad Fort under the pretext of a pre-wedding photoshoot. Then, as planned, Chetan, who was hiding, came from behind and together they pushed Ketan to the gorge. Initially, it was reported that Ketan Agarwal fell into a gorge and died while trekking with Siya in the fort.
Meanwhile, a person named Sunil, who helped recover the body, said that Siya was calm while others screamed after panic spread in the area.
In the preliminary investigation, police thought it was an accidental death. The Lonavala Rural Police had registered a case of accidental death. However, the shocking details of the planned murder came to light only after the CCTV footage from the ticket counter at Lohagad Fort was released.
