THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala is observing a public holiday today on account of Muharram. The holiday, which was initially scheduled for Thursday, was changed to Friday following the sighting of the crescent moon.
The government calendar had earlier listed June 25 as the holiday date. However, based on the moon sighting, the 10th day of Muharram was confirmed to fall on Friday, leading to a change in the holiday schedule.
Schools and government offices will remain closed today. However, banks will continue to function as usual, as Muharram is not a holiday for banking services.
