THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: VV Rajesh, Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram corporation, had his legs plastered following an injury suffered in the ruckus that took place inside the corporation on Thursday. Deputy Mayor GS Ashanath also sought treatment. A clash broke out between CPM and BJP councillors in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation over the oath-taking controversy.
The CPM councillors heckled Mayor VV Rajesh and stopped him from entering the office. However, the mayor and senior CPM leader Vanchiyoor Babu fell to the ground in the ensuing pushing and shoving. The mayor made it clear that he would not accept a forceful protest and called it an unnecessary provocation from the CPM councillors.
“Those who had come to meet the mayor since morning were stopped and sent back. The BJP women councillors were attacked. I suffered injury on my legs,” said VV Rajesh.
Two councillors from the CPM and BJP were also injured. CPM Kattaikonam councillor Sindhu Sasi and BJP Peroorkada councillor Deepa were injured. Sindhu suffered injuries and had four stitches on her head. The police who tried to calm the situation were also roughed up. A woman police officer was injured.
