AMRITSAR: Air India has initiated an internal investigation following a serious security oversight where a domestic flight crossed into Pakistani airspace.

The incident occurred on Monday, June 22, involving flight AI1479, which was operating on the Delhi-Amritsar route. According to airline officials, the aircraft was attempting to land at Amritsar airport but was forced to abort the approach and perform a go-around due to unfavourable conditions. During this manoeuvre, the plane inadvertently crossed the international border and entered Pakistani airspace.

Aviation authorities were immediately notified of the breach. Air India has since confirmed that a formal inquiry is underway to determine the exact circumstances that led to the navigation error.

"The crew operating flight AI479 from Delhi to Amritsar on 22 June had marginally infringed into the Pakistan airspace while manoeuvring a go-around at Amritsar airport. The incident has been reported to the regulatory authorities and is being investigated internally," Air India said in a statement.

The airline further emphasised that the safety and security of its passengers and crew remain its topmost priority, and appropriate measures will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
