KOCHI: The Event Data Recorder (EDR) of the Mini Cooper car involved in the accident that killed three youngsters at Nedumbassery will be sent to Germany for examination. Experts at the BMW headquarters will analyse the data and share their findings with the police. The move is aimed at ensuring that the company's privacy policies are not violated. As the EDR has to be sent to Germany, the police will have to wait longer to access crucial information recorded inside the vehicle at the time of the accident.
The EDR analysis can reveal important details about the vehicle's speed in the few seconds before the accident, whether the brakes were applied, the steering angle, whether the occupants were wearing seat belts and whether the airbags were deployed.
