TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee's niece found hanging inside house; police begin investigation

KOLKATA: Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's niece committed suicide. Nihar Mukherjee's daughter Bristy Mukherjee (28) was found hanging on the first floor of her house at around 9 am today. Bristy Mukherjee was accused of obtaining a primary school teacher's post through corruption. She had also filed for divorce.

Family members said that she had been undergoing treatment for depression for the past few years. The Rampurhat police are investigating the reason behind the suicide. The body has been shifted to Rampurhat Government Medical College Hospital for postmortem.

"The body has been sent for postmortem. Investigation is underway. The circumstances leading to the death will be clear after the postmortem and other procedural investigations," a senior police officer was quoted as saying by PTI.
