Speaker's talks end deadlock; Lok Sabha to discuss examination amendment bill

NEW DELHI: The Lok Sabha will hold a six-hour discussion on the Examination Amendment Bill on Tuesday after Speaker Om Birla's efforts to build consensus with the opposition proved successful. The discussion was scheduled following the Speaker's outreach to opposition parties. The opposition is expected to cooperate with the bill, as it is viewed as reflecting students' demands.

The bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Monday amid opposition protests. Opposition members repeatedly disrupted proceedings in both Houses of Parliament, demanding a response from Union Home Minister Amit Shah over alleged police action against students.
Despite repeated appeals by Speaker Om Birla to restore order, the opposition continued its protests, leading to temporary adjournments of parliamentary proceedings during the morning session.

When the Lok Sabha reconvened at around 5 p.m., opposition members resumed their protests, prompting the Speaker to adjourn the House for the day. The six-hour discussion on the bill is now scheduled to take place on Tuesday.
