'Cockroaches remarks not on youth'; clarifies Chief Justice Surya Kant 

NEW DELHI: Chief Justice of India Surya Kant said that his cockroaches remarks made during the Supreme Court hearing was about those who entered the legal profession using fake degrees. He clarified that he did not insult the youth of the country and that he has respect for them. He was speaking in an interview given to a national media.

‘I spoke about those who entered the legal profession with fake degrees. The discussion was about fake degrees and how to cleanse this area. Such a remark was made in that situation. When I travel, many people come to see me. I draw energy from the youth of the country,' he said.

The Chief Justice clarified that the doors of the Supreme Court are always open to every citizen of the country to resolve any grievance that is allowed by the constitutional principles or the laws of the country. He also said that the youth of the country can approach the Supreme Court if they have any grievances that need to be resolved through the judicial system.

During the hearing on May 15, there was a huge controversy in the news when unemployed law graduates were compared to cockroaches. This led to protests that even led to the formation of the 'Cockroach Janta Party'. There was even an interpretation that the Chief Justice's remark was aimed not only at those in the legal profession but at the entire youth of the country.

The Chief Justice had clarified the very next day that his words had been distorted by the media. He had earlier said in a statement that he had criticized only those who had entered fields like the Bar Council using fake degrees, and that such people had infiltrated the media, social media and other fields. The Chief Justice said in an interview that the development and future of the country lie in the youth, and that he sees them as the pillars of a developed India.
