CHENNAI: In a significant administrative move, the TVK-led Tamil Nadu government has appointed prominent film producer Venkat Narayana as the state’s Special Representative in New Delhi. The appointment was formalised through the creation of a temporary, specialised post, with his tenure set for a period of one year.
Venkat Narayana’s entry into the political diplomatic corridor comes at a crucial juncture. He is the producer of the highly anticipated movie Jananayakan, starring actor-turned-politician Vijay. The film’s theatrical release has been hit by recent delays following an ongoing dispute with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
The producer's proximity to the political landscape was evident earlier when he accompanied the TVK chief during a high-profile meeting with Governor Vishwanath Arlekar to stake a claim to form the government.
A native of Karnataka, Venkat Narayana built his career in the entertainment business through film distribution. In 2020, he consolidated his business ventures by founding the Bengaluru-based KVN Group.
While his primary operations have been centred in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Venkat Narayana recently expanded his footprint into Malayalam cinema. He is the producer behind the current box-office hit Balan: The Boy, which marks his maiden production venture in the Malayalam film industry.
His latest assignment in the national capital is expected to see him bridge the gap between the state government and federal authorities over the next year.
