Heavy rain: Order to suspend quarries, adventure tourism centres, trekking and other activities

KALPETTA: In the wake of heavy rains, restrictions have been imposed on various areas in Wayanad. District Collector V Chelsasini said quarries, adventure tourism centres, trekking and other such activities in the district have been ordered to be suspended. This was informed via social media.

In wake of the alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in connection with the possibility of heavy rain in the district, and keeping public safety in mind, an order has been issued to suspend quarries, adventure tourism centres, trekking and other such activities in the district.

If there is a situation requiring the evacuation of people from disaster-prone and vulnerable areas of the district, the respective grama panchayat secretaries must take the necessary steps. If families living in areas threatened by soil erosion at the township construction site need to be relocated, the Kalpetta Municipality Secretary must coordinate with the Township Chief Operating Officer and take the necessary measures.

If evacuation becomes necessary in the Kalladi–Anakkampoyil tunnel construction area, the Mundakkai–Chooralmala disaster-affected area, or areas in Meppadi Grama Panchayat that are at risk of landslides, the Meppadi Grama Panchayat Secretary has been directed to make the necessary arrangements.

It was also stated that disciplinary action would be taken against those violating the order under Section 51(b) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005. The district administration has urged the public to cooperate with the authorities' instructions and remain vigilant.
