Collector orders regional holiday for govt offices, educational institutions on Sept 28

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: District Collector Anu Kumari, who is also the district election officer, has declared a regional holiday on September 28, the polling day, for government offices and educational institutions located within the limits of wards where by-elections to local self-government institutions are being held in the district.

Institutions functioning as polling stations and distribution and collection centres will remain closed on September 27 and 28. Institutions serving as counting centres will also remain closed on September 29. Public examinations are not affected by the holidays.

The order states that if public examinations are scheduled at schools housing polling booths, examination halls must be arranged in such a way that the smooth conduct of the by-elections is not disrupted.

Polling will be held in the following wards and divisions on Monday, from 7 am to 6 pm at Kallara Division (04) of Thiruvananthapuram District Panchayat, Anchuthengu Division (14) of the Chirayinkeezhu Block Panchayat, Ottoor Division (07) of the Varkala Block Panchayat, Mundakkal Ward (16) of the Mangalapuram Grama Panchayat, Pazhayakada Ward (05) of the Thirupuram Grama Panchayat.
