THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A liquor ban has been imposed in parts of Thiruvananthapuram district in connection with the Karkidaka Vavu Bali rituals. The ban will be in force from 12 am on August 11 to 2 pm on August 12. The order prohibits the operation of all liquor outlets within the limits of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, Varkala Municipality, Aruvikkara and Perumkadavila grama panchayats.
The order was issued by Thiruvananthapuram District Collector and District Magistrate Anu Kumari. The restriction has been imposed as a precautionary measure as large numbers of devotees are expected to gather at various venues to perform the Karkidaka Vavu Bali rituals. Devotees, including women and children, are expected to visit major bali ritual centres such as Thiruvallam Parasurama Temple, Varkala Papanasam Beach, Aruvikkara Devi Temple and Aruvippuram Shiva Temple.
