Legacy spanning over five decades; Karnataka Congress heavyweight Siddaramaiah makes big announcement

BENGALURU: Former Karnataka Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah announced his retirement from electoral politics. Siddaramaiah's unexpected announcement comes months after he stepped down as Chief Minister. The announcement was made through the social media platform X.

"Today's politics is full of corruption. Therefore, I will not contest the 2028 assembly elections. But I will remain active in politics," he said in the post. At the same time, Siddaramaiah added that it is not the right step to contest the election again despite demand from the people of his constituency.

Siddaramaiah cited age and health as the reasons behind the decision. He also reminded people of his political career and legacy spanning over five decades. For the past five decades, the people of this state loved and respected him as one of their own. Siddaramaiah said that he will always be grateful for the affection showered on him.
