NEW DELHI: The national disaster management authority's cell broadcast service, which is implemented to convey disaster warnings to the public, has been temporarily suspended. The national disaster management authority has clarified that cell broadcasts will not be carried out until further notice. The order in this regard was issued on June 12.
There are hints that a midnight message was received on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's phone, which is behind this decision. However, this has not been confirmed. The usual practice is to avoid such messages reaching the phones of those holding important posts.
The cell broadcast was implemented to provide emergency notifications on the phone during natural disasters. The cell broadcast is a message similar to the alert box that is received when recharging a mobile phone. The warning message was delivered to the phones with a loud sound.
The common alerting protocol project was implemented under the leadership of the national disaster management authority. The project, which was implemented on a trial basis from 2023, was implemented nationwide after its success. People were receiving warnings of hurricanes and heavy rains through this.
