UDF government sets next 100-day targets with focus on development and investment

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The UDF government is setting its sights on a new 100-day development agenda, with land acquisition for its ambitious Mission Samudra project among the key priorities. After completing its first 100 days, during which it introduced measures including free KSRTC bus travel for women, the government is now focusing on the state's broader development. Moving forward, it plans to shift its economic policy from an expenditure-focused approach to an investment-driven growth model, with development projects taking priority during each 100-day phase.

As part of Mission Samudra, steps will be taken to acquire land for various projects, along with the introduction of special land acquisition rules. The plan includes the development of Vizhinjam and Kochi ports, along with 17 other medium-sized ports. The upgraded ports are expected to boost domestic cargo movement and strengthen the state's transport infrastructure.

Special law for Vizhinjam

1. Infrastructure will be developed to support new projects in Vizhinjam and Kochi. A special law will be introduced to ensure the availability of land for new projects in Vizhinjam, with additional land to be acquired.
2. Steps will be taken to develop the Vizhinjam-Balaramapuram railway line and an outer ring road connecting Vizhinjam port. The government also plans to speed up National Highway construction.
3. The Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) will be restructured. A digital monitoring system will be introduced to review the progress of existing projects.
4. The MEDISEP health insurance scheme for government employees will be revised. The government also plans to disburse pending payments, including this year's dearness allowance arrears.
