KANNUR: Another mobile phone was seized from Kannur Central Jail. The phone was found in a bottle hidden near the new bathroom in Block 5. Apart from the phone, a power bank, SIM card, charging wire, headset, etc. were also recovered from the bottle. They were found by the prison employees in a search conducted by them. The Kannur Town Police registered a case on the complaint of the prison joint superintendent and started an investigation.

The seizure of mobile phones, drugs and electronic devices from Kannur Central Jail is becoming a recurring story. The police had arrested a gang a few months ago for throwing drugs over the wall into the Kannur Central Jail. A youth from Panankavu, who was arrested last year, had revealed about distributing goods to the prison.

Outside helpers throw the necessary items from near the prison wall adjacent to the national highway. They will first give a signal by throwing stones and then throw the mobile phones and drugs over the wall. They will be paid Rs 1,000 to 2,000 for this service. The youth revealed that the money is sent via Google Pay once the distribution is complete.
