THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An orange alert has been issued in six districts of Kerala for the next three hours, with isolated places likely to experience moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Ernakulam districts are under the orange alert, which is valid for the next three hours only. These areas may experience thunderstorms and winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph.
In Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts, isolated places are likely to receive moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph. Kannur and Kasaragod districts may receive light rain at isolated places, according to the IMD.
The IMD has warned of possible waterlogging and reduced visibility on major roads, which could lead to traffic congestion. Waterlogging or flooding may also occur in low-lying areas and along riverbanks.
Trees may be uprooted, potentially causing power disruptions and accidents. Houses and huts could sustain partial damage, while landslides and mudslides are also possible.
The adverse weather may affect people and livestock. Unsafe structures in coastal areas could also suffer damage.
