Holiday declared for educational institutions; Heavy rains continue in northern districts

WAYANAD: The District Collector declared a holiday for educational institutions in Wayanad district tomorrow following heavy rains. The holiday was declared for all educational institutions, including Anganwadis, religious studies classes, tuition centres, special classes, and professional colleges. The holiday does not apply to residential schools and residential colleges.

Rain is continuing unabated in Wayanad district. Due to the heavy rains, the District Collector issued an order imposing restrictions on quarries and tourist centres in the district. The restrictions apply to all tourist centres, trekking, adventure tourism centres, resorts, and homestays. The District Collector directed the local bodies to take action if necessary to relocate people living in vulnerable areas facing disaster.

Meanwhile, the rains are intensifying across the state as well. The Indian Meteorological Department informed that there is a possibility of very heavy rains in the next five days. As part of the precautions, the Meteorological Department announced orange and yellow alerts in various districts of the state. Orange alert is in Idukki, Kannur and Wayanad districts. A yellow alert has been announced in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kasaragod districts.
