Vidarsha, who bagged silver in Asian Games, is pride of Kerala, says CM

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V D Satheesan called and congratulated Vidarsha K Vinod, of Thiruvambady in Kozhikode, who won a silver medal in shooting in the Asian Games. During the video call, the chief minister said everyone is proud of Vidarsha and her achievement. He also shared a video congratulating the athlete on his Facebook page.

‘Heartfelt congratulations to Vidarsha K Vinod of Thiruvambady in Kozhikode, who scripted history by winning the silver medal in the 10m air rifle team event in shooting at the Asian Games. Vidarsha has achieved the rare distinction of becoming the first Malayali to win a medal in shooting at the Asian Games. This young talent was able to present this remarkable achievement to the country in her very first Asian Games. I wish Vidarsha, who has raised the pride of the country through her hard work and determination, continued success in the future. She is Kerala’s pride. She will get all the support and assistance from the state,’ the chief minister wrote on Facebook.

Sports Minister O J Janeesh also called Vidarsha and congratulated her. Agriculture Minister T Siddique will visit her house in Thiruvambady today.

Vidarsha was part of a three-member team who won the silver medal in the 10m air rifle team event. With this, she also created history as the first Malayali woman to win a shooting medal at the Asian Games.

Vidarsha said she was extremely happy to have achieved this historic feat in her very first Asian Games. She said that she had been married for one and a half years and, due to her training schedule, there were times when she could not spend even 40 days together with her husband. She added that her husband had given her complete support throughout her journey.

Vidarsha also said that the prize money announced by the state government for medal winners even before the Asian Games had a significant impact on the athletes during the competitions.
