Electricity crisis deepens: KSEB issues circular asking industries to follow restrictions during peak hours

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has tightened restrictions on power consumption again following the worsening electricity crisis in the state. KSEB has issued a circular asking consumers and industrial establishments to reduce power consumption during peak hours.

Power consumption should be reduced between 7 pm and 12 midnight. KSEB has directed industrial establishments to shift their operations to solar or off-peak hours. Water Authority pumping and the use of appliances that consume more electricity in homes should be shifted to daytime. The circular also directed consumers to set air conditioners at 25 degrees Celsius. The KSEB has also asked people to avoid unnecessary decorative lighting in homes and industrial establishments.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan said at a press conference yesterday that there had been no advance planning to anticipate the power crisis in the state. Although the Chief Minister had said last week that the situation would be brought under control within a week, power restrictions are still continuing in the state.
