ED case accused attending Onam celebrations at Museum station: Six officials transferred to AR Camp

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Action has been taken in the incident where CPM workers, accused in the case of attacking the Enforcement Directorate (ED), attended the Onam celebrations on the premises of the Museum Police Station. A detailed investigation will also be conducted to determine whether there was any conspiracy behind the incident. Action against the Station House Officer (SHO) will be decided after the investigation. The city police commissioner had submitted a report to senior officials, stating that there had been serious lapses on the part of the police officers.

The SHO and other police personnel should have sent the accused back after signing the register. The report states that it was a lapse on the part of the officers that the accused were allowed to use the swing and chenda (traditional drum) arranged at the station for the Onam celebrations. The report said the officers failed to prevent this.

City Police Commissioner Dr Arul B Krishna handed over the report to the Southern Range IG. The report has sought a detailed investigation to find out whether the accused had received any assistance from any police officer. The commissioner submitted the report based on an investigation report prepared by the special branch. The special branch report had also pointed that there were serious lapses on the part of the officers at the Museum Police Station.

Meantime, the report rejected the allegation that the police had purchased clothes for the accused. It stated that no clothes were bought for them. A total of 68 shirts were purchased for the Museum Police Station from a textile shop in Palayam. The shirts and the list of police personnel were examined. Although the shirt worn by I P Binu and those worn by the police officers were blue in colour, the investigation found that they were different.
