THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former DCC member Chenthi Anil was granted bail in the case related to obstructing Chief Minister V D Satheesan on the road. The Vanchiyoor Judicial First Class Magistrate Court granted him bail with conditions. The court directed Anil to cooperate with the investigation, appear before the investigating officers and not repeat similar offences.
The incident took place on the evening of the 28th at Chenthi near Ulloor. Anil allegedly blocked the Chief Minister's vehicle convoy in protest against Satheesan not attending a Chathayadinam programme.
According to the FIR, the Chief Minister stopped his vehicle and got out after seeing senior Congress leader Peethambara Kurup and others. A roadblock was then created under the leadership of Chenthi Anil, the FIR stated.
When Anil asked the Chief Minister why he had not attended the programme he was scheduled to attend, Satheesan reportedly asked him why he was getting angry. Anil then allegedly asked what he would do if he got angry, according to the FIR.
However, the Chief Minister's Office said the Special Branch had instructed him not to attend the programme.
Sreekaryam police took Anil into custody late Friday night for allegedly obstructing the official duties of those who were on duty with the Chief Minister. His arrest was recorded the following morning, and he was produced before the court. Police had subsequently obtained his custody for evidence collection.
