THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 65-year-old woman was killed by her grandson at Channankara in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Mercy, a native of Channankara. Police have taken her daughter’s son, Shibin, into custody in connection with the incident.

The incident took place around 10 am. According to the police, Mercy and Shibin had frequent arguments at home. The two had an argument again this morning, during which Shibin allegedly slit Mercy’s throat and killed her.

Shibin later came out of the house carrying a blood-stained knife and told nearby residents that he had killed his grandmother. The neighbours then alerted the police. Shibin had left the house by the time the police arrived. He was later taken into custody from Kadinamkulam. Police are also checking whether he was under the influence of any intoxicants at the time of the incident.
