Class 10 students attacked while returning from coaching class, attempted assault on girl; three arrested in Bihar

PATNA: Three people have been arrested after a video showing a Class 10 girl and her male friend being stopped and assaulted by a group of youths in Bihar's Jamui went viral on social media. The incident has triggered widespread outrage, following which the police intensified their investigation.

The two students were targeted for travelling together at night. The video shows a group of youths stopping the girl on the road and questioning her. Some of them are seen allegedly touching her inappropriately and dragging her along the road. The boy accompanying her is seen running after the attackers and bringing her back to safety.

The incident took place on Saturday evening under the Jamui Nagar police station limits. The students, who are residents of Jamui, had gone to Marwa Pahad on a scooter after attending coaching classes. While returning, a group of youths allegedly stopped them and behaved inappropriately towards the girl. The boy accompanying her was also separated from her by the group. The girl is seen pleading with the youths to let her go, but they allegedly continued harassing her. Some people attempted to intervene and rescue her, but the group allegedly returned and continued the assault. Police said the students were subjected to the attack for around 20 minutes.

The girl's family had initially not approached the police. Police traced the victims after the videos surfaced on social media and began an investigation. Three people have since been arrested, while further action is being taken against others allegedly involved in the incident.

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi also condemned the incident. He questioned the Bihar government over the safety of girls on public roads after 7 pm and demanded accountability over the incident.
