'Quarraled previous night, officials intervened'; Police grilling husband over Malayali woman, daughter's death in Sharjah

SHARJAH: More details emerged in the death of a Malayali woman and her five-year-old daughter, who jumped from a flat complex in Al Nahda, Sharjah. The woman (35) threw her daughter from the 15th-floor balcony and then jumped to her death. The apartment is a 35-story building.

Arsha (35) of Puthiyakavu ‘Arsha Ashita Bhavan’ in Azhikode, Kannur, and her daughter Roohi died in the incident. Arsha had been living with their husband, Nihal, in a flat near Sahara Mall in Al Nahda, Sharjah, for the past few years. Arsha was an online business owner. Nihal's father and brother all live in the UAE. Arsha's sister also lives in the flat next to them.

The incident took place on Wednesday morning. The security and the staff of the apartment rushed to the spot, hearing a loud noise, only to see a mother and daughter lying in a pool of blood. Ambulance service was sought, and the police were also alerted. The officials sealed the place and started the procedures. Sharjah police filed a case of suicide and handed over the file to the public prosecution.

There is suspicion of a family feud that led to the suicide. Neighbours revealed that the woman and her husband clashed the previous night, and even the police were summoned and had to intervene to stop the quarrel. Nihal, who works in the aviation sector, is currently under custody and is being questioned by the police. The couple had been married for 15 years. Arsha’s death came as a shock to everyone since she was cordial with the neighbours and used to be a common face in the Malayali community in the area.
