BENGALURU: In a shocking incident, a 32-year-old woman working as a home guard was stabbed to death by her husband. The deceased has been identified as Manjula, a home guard at the Mahadevapura Police Station in Bengaluru. Police have arrested her husband Pradeep in connection with the incident.
Manjula and Pradeep had been married for 15 years and have two children. According to relatives, frequent disputes had occurred in the family over Pradeep's online gambling habits. Pradeep had also reportedly suspected his wife's character and often argued with her over the paternity of their children. Unable to tolerate her husband's harassment, Manjula had been staying at her parents' house with her children for the past one-and-a-half-months.
The incident took place on Sunday when Pradeep attacked Manjula at her parents' house. He reportedly arrived with a knife hidden inside his jacket. Pradeep first apologised for his actions and requested Manjula to return with him. However, he later became violent and attacked her with the knife. Police said Pradeep stabbed Manjula more than 20 times in front of her mother and two children.
Before the murder, the accused had recorded a video message in which he admitted that his online gambling habit had destroyed his family. "I can't live without my wife. I have spoken to her father and brother-in-law. She will return after work in the evening. I will once again ask her to return to me. If she says she won't again, I will kill her there," he said in the video.
After attacking his wife, Pradeep allegedly tried to take his own life by slashing his hand with the same knife. Upon receiving information, police reached the spot and arrested him. Police have launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
