KOCHI: CPM state secretary M V Govindan has lashed out at the UDF government over the police action in Malayidamthuruth. He alleged that the UDF government used the police to carry out a brutal crackdown against poor people within hours of coming into power.

He also claimed that the police action at Malayidamthuruth was an attempt to create a miniversion of the Muthanga incident. Govindan said that the eviction of poor families would not be allowed under any circumstances. During his visit to Malayidamthuruth, he met the affected families in person and expressed support for them.

Govindan further alleged that the police carried out this attack by using the court order as a shield to protect the interests of a financially influential group. He also pointed out that during the 10-year rule of the previous LDF government, efforts were made to support people by providing houses to the homeless and issuing land title documents to those who did not have ownership papers.
