Kozhikode on malaria alert; seek immediate treatment for fever, know preventive measures

KOZHIKODE: Malaria has been confirmed again in the district. A native of Uttar Pradesh living in the ward that includes Valayam town was found to be infected. He reached Valayam from Uttar Pradesh the other day. He had sought treatment for fever at Valayam Hospital. The disease was detected during a test conducted here. In the meanwhile, he had gone to his native place.

Two were confirmed with malaria in Kozhikode yesterday. A 63-year-old man from Iringallur of Olavanna panchayat and a native of Madhya Pradesh living in Thikkodi were confirmed of the disease. The disease was confirmed on the native of Olavanna when a test was conducted after his fever worsened while undergoing treatment at a private hospital. The 63-year-old also lived in an area where migrant workers live. The health department suspects that the disease may have been transmitted to him from here. The migrant worker living in Thikkodi had arrived a few days ago in search of work.

Malaria is spread by female Anopheles mosquitoes. This is a life-threatening infectious disease in humans. Symptoms can begin within ten to fifteen days of being bitten by a mosquito. Symptoms of malaria include high fever, headache, muscle aches, joint pain, extreme fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. If you experience these symptoms, should seek treatment immediately. Preventive measures include using mosquito nets while sleeping, avoiding mosquito bites as much as possible and don’t allow water to stagnate in the surroundings.
