Policeman’s bike set on fire in Anchal; threat letter found
KOLLAM: A civil police officer’s Bullet motorcycle was set on fire in Anchal, Kollam district. The bike belonged to Vivek, an officer at the Aranmula Police Station. Following the incident, a threatening letter was also recovered, leading police to suspect that political rivalry was the motive behind the attack.
The incident is reportedly linked to a clash between SFI and KSU activists at a college in Punalur three years ago. Vivek was part of the police team that conducted a lathi charge to control the situation at the time. Several KSU and Youth Congress workers were injured during that police action, and it is believed the current attack was an act of revenge.
The attack took place while Vivek and his parents were inside the house. When they noticed the bike on fire and tried to rush outside, they slipped and fell on black oil that the attacker had poured outside the house, causing them minor injuries.
A three-page threatening letter was later found in front of the house. The letter stated that they had been "waiting for this day for three years" and asked, "Did you think we wouldn't come back?"
A team led by Punalur DySP Dr Aparna and forensic experts visited the site to collect evidence. The police have registered a case and initiated a detailed investigation into the incident.
